want to create new website to replace current one on another domain

    Someone created a website for my mom’s business on another domain. I would like to create a new website that I can maintain using WordPress. But not sure when to move it, etc. This is what the current webbuilder told me that I should consider migrating the site to a hosting company of my choice at some point. Her hosting is paid through Sept 2021 and she renewed the current website domain through 4.13.2021. I’m not sure how to start this. I’ll need to build the website from scratch while keeping the current domain working. Any help appreciated!

    Hi there,

    That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a .wordpress.com or a .home.blog subdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.

    Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

    map an existing domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    Or even creating a new one:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

    If you transfer the domain over, you will retain the same expiration date of 4.13.21.
