Want to delete domain–Please help

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently upgraded my blog to its own domain, but I have decided that I no longer wish to continue the blog. I would like to delete the domain but have so far been unable to. I have contacted both WordPress and Automattic support several times, but they have been unable to delete the domain. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to remove myself from ownership of the domain. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What do you mean exactly? Am I correct in assuming you have a domain.com that you have mapped to blogname.wordpress.com?
    1. Do you just want to delete the blog blogname.wordpress.com?
    2. Do you want to unmap domain.com from blogname.wordpress.com so that you can use domain.com somewhere else?

I registered for a “domain.com” through WordPress. It was simply my blog, but with its own domain. I no longer wish to use the blog or the domain. I would like the “blogname.wordpress.com” and well as the “domain.com” deleted.

    pittpatriot,
Once you have bought the domain you own it for one year. You cannot simply delete the domain itself. The domain is just a nameholder. With wordpress.com you cannot even remove yourself from the publicly available records for that domain.

You can unmap your domain from from your blogname.wordpress.com by going to Upgrades > Domains, then making blogname.wordpress.com your primary domain. You can then delete your blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/

However, before doing that I recommend you transfer your domain to another registrar
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar
Select a registrar that provides privacy protection, and at least publicly, you will then no longer be associated with that domain.

    i just figured how!!

you go on settings of your dashboard then click on delete blog.you will have to enter on your e-mail account to enter in a e-mail send by word press.in this e-mail you will have a link to click if you click on it it will delete your blog forever and you can’t create again(that envolves you and everyone else in the world).
    hope i helped.

    husdal,

I attempted to do what you said but this still comes up when I try to delete:

    “Delete Blog
Warning! You cannot delete a blog if the blog has a domain registration upgrade. You must have access to the blog in order to get to the domain manager.

If you do not want to use your blog any more please make it private. Other users won’t be able to visit the blog but you can still access the Dashboard so you can get to the domain manager.”

I C. I’ve never see that issue. I’ve had many blogs with a domain on wordpress.com, but all my domains were with an outside registrar, and I never had any problems deleting the blog.

Have you contacted Support and what response did you get?

I will try and track this to support if it doesn’t come clear soon…

I started piperorchard.wordpress.com to find and hide piperorchard.org.

i realized a year or so later that i really wanted a plural of that, pipersorchard.org

i made another payment for the plural, and in the domain tools set my primary blog to the plural. In my domain registrar i set the singular to redirect to the plural.. BUT just realized i did not set it to use the what looks new to me HTTP 303 redirect. I’ve set that now, and i see the plural when i type the singular in directly.

The very interesting thing is that if i type the singular or the plural into the browser ii see the right content and URL, but, if i search for ‘pipers orchard’ on google, and click on that link, i am shown ( below the blogger toolbar ) an old page of the blog, with the singular url. I understand why i see the old url as that is what is indexed, but if i go on a hit from bing, it still indexes the singular, but i get the plural url and content when i click.

Seems like in any case i need to at least park the singular and list the plural long enough for the search engines to find the plural and forget the singular…

It would be nice if i could clean the singular out of wordpress. Deleting the whole blog, unless i can save it off and restore, seems very onerous. i can live with the singular.wordpress.com.
