want to edit custom menu

Click widget, now get ‘There are no widget areas on the page shown, however other pages in this theme do have them.’ What happened, what can I do to get back to normal. New user.

Widgets are displayed in footer areas or sidebars only. Note: Widgets have visibility settings https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget- that determine which pages they display on.

Or set them up in the theme customizer

You referred to a custom menu above but widgets are not found in the custom menu bar. I assume you mean they are not displayed on one or some of your items that you have included in your custom menu.

thank you timethief. After asking for help I was getting frustrated. Ended up removing custom menus with no success, emptied browser cache-no success, rebooted–no success. Changed over to using Chrome rather than IE 11 and a miracle happened, the problem was gone. Now I will use Chrome rather than IE. By the way I hated what was being done with WIndows 8 and 10 and bought my last laptop expressly for WIndows 7. Chrome is looking more and more attractive. I knew that I had to created custom menus for sidebar and had been doing it until I ran into the message. Thanks again.

P.S. I am a Firefox user. I dislike Chrome and IE too. IMHO Edge is better than IE.

Thank you again timethief. I have used Firefox quite a bit but ran into it crashing if I had too many tabs open. Yes, I know I can be better disciplined and not keep so many open. Have no experience with Edge. Today I have been learning and practicing pull quotes. Got many of my custom menus back up and operating. A mystery that I am running into is that whenever I work with custom menus my primary menu gets displaced and I have to go back and assign it the primary position.
