Want to enlarge images

    Enlarge images

I get to the Media Library page and it says ‘Edit’, but then it says I can only scale down an image, not enlarge it. Yet I see large images in other people’s blogs, so it must be possible.

    I’d appreciate your help, thanks!

  • Hi Lana,

Images can’t be enlarged any bigger than the size that they were uploaded. When you are inserting an image into a post, there are a few “standard” sizes offered (see item 7 on this screenshot: http://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/image-settings1.png ).

If your pictures are being added smaller than originally uploaded, that setting may be the way to fix it.

If you have any questions or I missed the mark, please do let me know!

    Hi there,

Thank you for your reply! I looked at the link, but that is not what appears when I’m uploading images. It only says dimensions (4000pixel x 3000 pixel), and this appears in the right-hand sidebar. Also I upload in batches and don’t know if changing those dimensions affects all the images.

Other people’s blogs have sometimes very large pictures. I don’t know how they were able to get them that way. Could it be dependent upon the blog theme? I’ve seen some people’s images where they take up the whole screen.

I just want to make a few of my images bigger than the rest. I tried dragging the picture to make it larger, which it is in my dashboard, but does not get reflected in the actual blog.

I’d appreciate any further suggestions, thanks!

    Lana

  • Hey Lana,

Can you send me a link to one of the pages/posts you added your picture to that you’d like to see enlarged? I want to check to see how you’re doing it now as a starting place to helping you get it how you’ll like.

    Cheers!

    Hi kraftbj,

Thanks so much for your help!

Here are 2 page links where I enlarged a photo. In the first one, it is the red and white rooster on the left side. And in the second link, it is the white flowers with the black background.

  • Hi Lana,

A minor little nitty gritty thing to change to edit the pictures as you’d like.

While editing the post, click on the image, then click on the little picture icon that appears in the top corner of the picture.

When the pop-up opens, click on the Advanced Settings tab. Here’s what you should see: https://cloudup.com/cFaIrEdSG8n

If you notice on the “source” line, it ends with ?w=225. That query string is telling our server to send back an image at a width of 225 pixels. If you remove that piece of the line, it’ll send back the larger image.

For the rooster picture, I corrected this for you. I’ll leave the other so you can try it to make sure we’re on the same page :-)

Does that get you (more) in the right direction? :-)

    Cheers!

    Hi kraftbj,

Thank you for your very clear instructions. I did as you suggested, however, the picture remains the same size. I double-checked if that part of the command string query was deleted and it was.

    Any thoughts?

Thanks again for all your help!
