want to follow a site, but …
-
there’s no follow button. :-(
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/
Obviously a .org site. Those damned superior people! [grin]
How do I get this URL into the blogs I follow list on my own site, please, team? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
If you log into your WordPress.com account and go to http://wordpress.com/following/edit/ you will see a box up at the top to add the URL of a site you’d like to follow.
Let me know if you have any trouble.
-
Not exactly ‘trouble’, rootjosh; but I can’t enter the longer URL that contains the blog part of her site, as doing that tells me there’s no RSS feed available. By all the gods, I wish I had the faintest idea about RSS feeds … but that’s another story.
I can enter the basic URL, and it works; but of course it also shows the http:// part, which is unsightly.
I might have to forget about it – but I do thank you! -
I’m not sure if this would work, but you could enter the URL for that site’s RSS feed:
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/feed
Let me know what happens with that.
-
No – no feed available.
Where do you advise me to go to learn what’s needed re feeds for WordPress.com, please? -
So here is our page on feeds:
It is mostly about how feeds relate to your WordPress.com site. But it has some good info on feeds and feed readers.
There is also this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS
When you are trying to put that site into the “follow” box on the page I liked to earlier, what exactly are you typing? Because I was able to follow it yesterday with no issues. I would like to see if I could replicate the error you are getting.

You can do that without seeing the full thing …?

You can do that without seeing the full thing …?So, if I enter ttp://sarahallenconsulting.com.au/category/blog I do get that error message. But if I enter http://sarahallenconsulting.com.au I am able to follow the site just fine.
Same deal with http://www.thehistoryblog.com/ . If I just enter http://www.thehistoryblog.com/ into the box, I do not get an error message and am able to follow in the Reader.
-
Got The History Blog, no worries. But nothing I can do will prevent Sarah’s site from showing the opening “Http://”.
I reckon it must have to do with the way the site was created, somehow or other.
ANYWAY.
Many thanks for all your help, and I shall most certainly be going to those two places for input re feeds. -
