Want to keep site, but not pay to renew the address.

I don’t want to renew a site name that was paid for, I would like to go back to the generic free site i started off with when opening wordpress. Can someone help me do this? Thanks!

You can make this change. Just keep in mind that your custom domain will go through a deletion period where it will become more expensive and difficult to recover. Once deleted, it will be available for someone else to recover:
To enable your free WordPress.com subdomain, login to your WordPress admin. Then go to Store –> Domains.
Then set your WordPress.com subdomain as your primary domain:
