Want to move from Shopify to WP

I would like to move away from Shopify and transfer my entire store to WP. Shopify literally strips basic features that should be included and forces you to purchase many apps on a subscription basis to do simple things like : allowing a customer to edit account details…

Currently I have over 500 customers with accounts and I’d like to know how easy it would be to transfer their accounts, purchase history etc… along with the website over to WP platform?

I understand some manual work will be involved, re-creating pages and content for the themes etc.. But I’m more concerned about how hard it’ll be to transfer my customers over.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @ukpoundsound,

WordPress by itself does not have a cart. I’d recommend figuring out which carts have the option to import from Shopify, then check them each to see which would suit you best.

We recommend WooCommerce. Do note it does work on a freemium model, though: the free software works well on its own, or you can add more features through subscription upgrades. So you’ll want to compare what your needs are to the core offerings vs extras.

As far as WordPress.com the hosting service is concerned, you can use whichever cart you want, but you would need a business plan to install plugins:

Or, you’re welcome to run your own installation with another host. We just would not be able to provider support and maintenance for it.
