Want to move WP blog to company domain

  Hi, I’m not a very tech-savvy person so any help (in layman’s terms) will be greatly appreciated! I man our company blog, which is currently hosted on wordpress.com. We want to move the blog to our company’s domain. So, not looking to just change the URL, but I want to move everything completely to our company’s server (e.g. move the code base from W.P. and migrate the installation of the blog). I’ve looked around the forums, and think I’ve seen something about moving the blog where nameservers are involved, but it looks like they’re just talking about changing the URL. I need to completely move this blog from WP to our own servers.

  Is this possible? What do I need to do?

  export > http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
  import > http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

  The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  We’re in a similar spot, wanting to move our previous WP blog content to a newly created blog on our new website. However, we won’t be using WP for the new blog.

  Does Google penalize you for exporting and importing historic content to a new blog in this way?

  No, provided you are actually moving the content and aren’t creating duplicate content across domains. Note how Google views duplicating content across domains and that their Panda algorithm will detect duplication > http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359
