Want to Purchase 'Guided Transfer' Service but Don't See It

  • Unknown's avatar

I need to move my WordPress.com site to another host and wish to purchase the ‘Guided Transfer’ service. The service is not shown as an option under Tools –> Export. 1) Is the service offered via a different area? 2) Is it missing as an option due to my Theme choice?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you using a Premium Theme?

(Note: If you don’t see the Guided Transfer option on that page, you likely have a Premium Theme or use Custom Fonts, which do not transfer. If you use a Premium Theme, you’ll need to switch your site to a free theme. If you use Custom Fonts, you’ll need to switch back to your theme’s default fonts. Once you do, you can add the Guided Transfer upgrade to your shopping cart.)

Thanks. I saw that reference somewhere but because the theme I was using was “discontinued” I was uncertain of its status. Best, JG

Actually, I changed to a free theme a few minutes ago and the Guided Transfer option still is not visible, even after logging out and back in. So, I’m still stuck.

Next try: I went ahead and clicked to “Export All” and received an email offering a link to downloadable file AND a link to purchase “Guided Transfer.” Attempted to pay for the transfer service and received error message informing me that I needed to make sure I wasn’t using a custom theme or fonts. I’m now on a free WP theme and have set the fonts to theme defaults. Still no joy! Same error message.

Can somebody please tell me what’s going on here and how I can get this done? Thanks!

  • Hi there,

There’s another user on your site which is also the owner of it. Only the user that owns the site will be able to buy a Guided Transfer.

Please ask that user to purchase the Guided Transfer. To find out their username go to My Sites > People.

If this doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

fstat – Both of those accounts are mine and I have attempted to purchase Guided Transfer services using both accounts — the “Owner” account again this morning. Same negative result, an error message reading, “To purchase a Guided Transfer, please disable any custom fonts and make sure to select a non-premium theme.” Somewhere WP’s system is seeing settings on my site that are triggering the error but I don’t know what else to do to make this work.

  • We’re already looking into this. In the meantime can you please try and clear your browser’s cache and try again? Here’s how to do it:

    Okay, back at it.
I have cleared my browser’s cache but when attempting to purchase Guided Transfer, I still receive the error message cited earlier. I am logged in under the owner’s account.

I note that Guided Transfer IS NOT listed under Tools –> Export as an option; an email sent to my account after Export All offers a link to add the purchase to my shopping cart.

  • Please let me know if you’re able to complete the purchase when Guided Transfer is added to your cart.

The process still ends with the error message: “To purchase a Guided Transfer, please disable any custom fonts and make sure to select a non-premium theme.”

  • Hi there,

Due to some technical reasons. The Guided Transfer will be available tomorrow (January 5). I’ll check with the Guided Transfer team first and let you know so you can proceed with it.

    Thank you for your understanding

With no reports of a forthcoming solution, I went ahead and found another way to achieve the importation to my new webhost. Thank you for looking into this for me but I will not be needing the service at this time. — JG

As mentioned earlier, since WordPress.com was unable to provide Guided Transfer services, our new webhost transferred our site to their servers. I made the necessary changes to the DNS via my registrar and got the new site online.

Later, I logged into my WordPress.com account and switched the primary site from my third-party domain name back to the WordPress-provided URL. Each site now functions and is accessible independently, the “old” WP site so that some users can still reach specific resources.
