Want to Separate Blogs into Two Different Accounts

    Dear Lovely Support Team,

I know, I know, you’ve answered questions about deleting blogs before, but I can’t find the exact response to this one, so I am asking for your help on this topic again.

I wanted to add another blog, and figured it would be easier to have both of them under my primary WordPress account, so I added the second account to my first one. Problem is, I don’t like the way the two are integrated and would now prefer to separate them. I want the second blog under its own account.

I understand under the rules for deleting blogs that (according to the FAQs):
“Do NOT delete a blog to transfer it to someone else.
Do NOT delete a blog to get it with a new username.
Do NOT delete a blog to get rid of old posts
If you are not sure – contact Support.”

But if it is MY OWN blog that I want to transfer to MYSELF in a new account and keep the name, I can’t do that? That seems quite odd. I spent a lot of time figuring out this name and now it is gone forever?

Is there really nothing that can be done?

(I suggest putting a note about blog deletion under the FAQ about blog creation so that users know this when they are thinking about creating accounts. It will help avoid this confusion and make life easier for you.)

    Thanks in advance,

    Maya

You can easily transfer a blog from one account to another. Nothing to do with deletion at all.

You have two IDs, A and B, and a number of blogs, including TRANSFERBLOG, the one you want to move to the other user ID. On TRANSFERBLOG, you make ID B the administrator, then you sign out. Then sign back in as ID B and when you’re in, delete ID A as administrator. Now your blog is under the second ID and not linked to the first at all.

Thanks for your quick reply, Raincoaster, but that was too complicated for me. Would you mind putting it a bit simpler.

Here’s what I understand you saying.

    – I have two blogs on one account: Blog A and Blog B.
    – Blog B is the one that needs to be transferred (“transferblog”?)
    – On Blog B, I… (this is where you lose me)

    I

    1. create a new account; let’s call this account B
    2. use account A (your first account) to invite account B to be admin of blog B
    3. in blog B, use account B to delete account A

so now, account A will have blog A, and account B will have blog B. you see it? =)

That was very clear, Sulz, thanks. But it doesn’t answer the question about renaming.

Account B will have a different blog name than Blog B. So even if Account B is the administrator of Blog B, the names will not match up, right?

Is there any way to address this or get around this other than having Account B be named something like Blog B2?

    Thanks for your patience.

i only read the question you posed in the post above my reply just now. you could try to sign up for account b with the name of blog b, though i believe once a blog name has been taken, the same account name will not be available too since they’re connected in that sense.

Yes, that’s the issue. Even if I deleted Blog B, I couldn’t then immediately re-register for the same name on Account B because once a blog name is used, it can never be used again– which is quite frustrating…

Even if I create Account B to administer Blog B, Account B still has to have a different name.

Sorry my explanation was complicated. This should be easy for you.

The two usernames have to be different, and the two blog URLs have to be different. But the blog displayed name and the username displayed can be different OR the same: it’s up to you.

Account B can have the username blogb if you want, that should not be a problem unless someone has already taken that username. If they have, you can register username blogb2 or whatever. And then, under your Profile page, set “nickname” to “blogb”.

Does that clarify? What you want is doable.

I think so. I really appreciate your help and will proceed accordingly thanks to your advice.

Much appreciated, Raincoaster and Sulz, for your excellent service and admirable response times.
