Want to set up website but don’t want to pay prior to knowing I will be able to do it.

    I want to start a website matching people, similar to a dating website but it is not a dating website. Is there a template I can use?

    Hi there,

    A theme only controls how a site looks, not how it works. To change how a site works requires plugins to add whatever extra functionality you need.

    I’m sure there exists plugins for the type of site you want to make, but the best place to ask about that is over on the forums for the open source WordPress software on WordPress.org – the people who make the WordPress software and plugins for that software help out in that forum.

    And while the theme won’t add the functionality you want, there will be themes that are designed specifically for this kind of site. We don’t have any themes like that available on WordPress.com, so again, the WordPress.org forums will be a better place to ask if anyone knows of an option.

    You can also try searching online for options – there are many tutorials and “what themes/plugins are best for…” for specific types of sites out there.

    Lastly, please note that using plugins or third party theme on a WordPress.com site is only possible on our Business Plan.
