Want to start over with my theme…

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to change the name of my ‘home’ page. When I did, it gave me two home pages in the site menu, one called ‘home’ and the other with the new name.

I tried changing the name back to ‘home’ to see if that would fix the problem.

It didn’t, so I tried to delete the new page entirely, but that deleted the original home page as well leaving just a broken link to home in the menu.

Finally I tried deleting just the title ‘home’ from the page, but that left me with a second, unnamed home page, and a blank, coloured roll-over in the menu.

Now I just want to start over with the theme and leave the ‘Home’ page alone this time.

The theme I am using is ‘Greenery’: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/greenery-10/

    Please help.

    Hi Jeff,

Right now, the reason you’re seeing two “Home’s” in your site’s navigation bar is because you don’t have a custom menu set up.

It sounds like you’d like to set a different page as your “Home” page, rather than the default posts page titled “Home” that you get when you sign up for WordPress. Is this right?

If so, you’ll first want to add some content to your Home page in your Dashboard -> Pages -> Edit page. Then, follow the instructions on this page to set your custom “Home” page as your site’s front page.

You can then create a custom menu to reflect this change by following these directions here.

Alternatively, if you’d like to go back to the original settings, you can simply delete your extra “Home” page by going to your Dashboard -> Pages and clicking on “Delete” under “Home.”

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask us :)

    Hi Erica,

Thanks a lot for your help. It was the Custom Menu that I was missing, I didn’t realise I could do that. All is well now.

    Cheers!
