Want to transfert GAMOPAT.COM to WORDPRESS

Hello,
I am the administrator of the french blog GAMOPAT.COM (with overblog.com).
After testing 1 hour your platform, I would like to transfert GAMOPAT.COM to WORDPRESS, how can I do ?
I am seen in the help that WordPress cannot accept transfert of registar ? Is that true ?
I need to keep GAMOPAT.COM because I use is since 10 years ! And the blog is popular.
I have seen the MAPPING option… But with the Mapping I should continue to pay with Overblog year after year ?????

Yes, you understand correctly. You cannot transfer your domain to WordPress.com, but only map it here. You’ll need to keep paying your current registrar for the domain registration. Then you buy the domain mapping upgrade to point your domain to your WordPress.com site. My objective is to subscribe Worpress for Premium, but without my domain name, it is not possible. I want to keep my brand.

I’m afraid I have no idea if WordPress.com will accept incoming domain transfers in future. I just know at the moment they don’t, according to the support documents.
Keep in mind, with domain mapping (which is included in Premium) it will work exactly as if your domain is at WordPress.com. Only difference is you’ll be paying WordPress for the mapping, and your registrar for the domain. But visitors to your site will not even know that your domain is registered elsewhere.

That sounds like both Registration and Hosting – once you are here your hosting costs go to zero (hosting here is free – but Domain Mapping costs)
yes you can domain map stand alone or as part of the +80€ – pick one or the other
the only fine print is your email – if you currently have email with your gamopat.com domain – you will need to do email somehow – but there are several ways to do email – some cost some don’t
I have my domain registered with another registrar but then it is mapped to my site here – $13.-/yr
My email is handled by my old host at a big discount to what the hosting used to cost
you can do what you want to do – but it should not cost as much as you think it will – your registration should be way less than what you are paying them for both Registration and Hosting

To be clear, we cannot accept incoming transfers. So, you would need to leave gamopat.com registered wherever you currently have it registered and map it to your site ($13).

If you purchase the Premium bundle, you can use the bundle credit to map your domain so you would only pay $99 total for the domain plus the Premium features. You would need to also continue paying the registration fee to keep the domain up and running at your registrar.
I’m thinking that @auxclass might be right here. It sounds like you may be referring to both the cost of hosting and the domain registration when you mention 60€/year. Can you check with your registrar to see what the cost of just the registration is each year?

there is no option with overblog.com : the only price is 60€/year… so 60€ + 99$ is too expensive, I am afraid I cannot come to WordPress, this is too espensive.
I am totally disapointed. Overblog if a bloody bad platform and i am prisoner with them :( I want to restard from zero elsewhere but not possible with my brand name.
So if I understand any website in the world can transfert his name to wordpress (except with mapping). All your customers should have new original website names, this is strange in my opinion. It’s so difficult to find new website name today.

There are other registrars who accept domain transfers. See if you can’t transfer your domain to another registrar that won’t expect you to pay for hosting. Try GoDaddy or Bluehost – they’re two of the most popular domain registrars and then you can map the domain to WordPress.com from there.

I should pay about 15€ for transfert to godaddy + 80€ for WordPress…
With not, it is only 15€ more thant I was expecting…
but
the problem is that I restart the blog from beginning (10 years, about 25 000 posts !), so with this point of view 95€ is a little expensive….

I’m sorry to hear that @docteurfloyd. Transferring your registration to GoDaddy (or another registrar) and mapping to WordPress.com would be the only option. Please let us know if you need anything else in the future!
