If it is then on Twenty Eeleven, you do that by uploading and setting a “featured image” for static pages and if you wish, for individual post pages. You need to size and crop the image ahead of time to the exact size required for a header on the theme 1000 x 288 pixels (size listed at appearance > header). You don’t want to “insert” the image into the post, you just set it as a featured image. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image
The featured image module should be down on the right side of the editor window. Once you have some uploaded, you can even set a featured image on additional posts or pages from the featured images you have already prepared and uploaded.Note also:
Twenty Eleven has a special Showcase template which takes advantage of Featured Images when used on sticky posts:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts
An image with a minimum height of 300 pixels and a maximum width of 500 pixels will display next to the post.
An image that is at least 1000 x 288 pixels will be displayed instead of the post with a title over the image.
