want to use wordpress.org on my wordpress.com blog
-
Hello all, I dont know if this will make sense or sound stupid but i am extremely new to blogging and I have the mentioned blog on wordpress.com but i want to do 2 things.
1) have a proper .com website address and not wordpress.com – if i opt for the $18 per year .com version from wordpress.com itself, will i still be able to do the second part
2) I want to install wordpress.org to format the site. can i do that if i stick to wordpress.com or do i need to change to a different host to use wordpress.org?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I’m happy to help.
You can have a “proper” url and still host your site at WordPress.com. To do so you’d purchase the domain mapping upgrade outlined here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/
As for your second question, installing WordPress.org on a WordPress.com site isn’t possible. The software running on WordPress.com is very similar (although usually somewhat ahead of) the most recent version of the WordPress.org software, and has much (but not all) of the same functionality. This article explains the difference between the two types of WordPress quite well: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you would share a bit more about what you want to do with your site, I might be able to help you decide which type of WordPress is best for you.
Good luck!

well as of now i can only think of some things i would like to do:
1) will i be able to have complete control over SEO for the site if it is hosted on wordpress.com? i read wordpress does it for its users automatically and also from my experience so far, I am not able to input keywords anywhere. or am i missing something?
2) With wordpress.org, i can use various plugins like say yoast SEO… I believe its not possible with wordpress.com
3) if in the future, the blog is successful, I would want to put ads on the blog, and from what I have read…. I will not be able to control what ads to put on my blog if i continue with wordpress.com? Also read that it only allows you to use one ad program that is wordads.Hence confused…

@probablyankita everything you’ve stated here is true. If having those features is essential to you, than going with a self-hosted site is the way you will have to go.
Here’s more on the differences between .org and .com so you can make a good decision on whether flexibility or security/support is more important to you: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/14/com-or-org/
Hope that helps!
