Wanted domain taken by an inactive user

So I want a certain domain/username but it’s already been taken by someone else. I’ve checked their website and they’ve been inactive for a good eight years, and even then have only published two posts. I was wondering if it was possible to somehow reach out to them and ask if I could have their domain, or if wordpress are somehow able to take that domain? (I’m not looking to get rid of the wordpress.com in it, just the username part of it) Thanks in advance for your help :)

As mentioned on this page, WordPress.com honors users’ content and websites. WordPress.com can never release someone’s site address for others, no matter how long it has been since their last update.

@atwinklingworld If the site is inactive but has an open comment or contact form on, you can try asking the site owner if they would be willing to transfer the site to you. If they agree to do so, they can follow this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
If there’s no open contact/comment form on the site or the site owner doesn’t reply or says no, nothing further can be done. But it’s worth a try. Good luck!
