try searching the forum, this subject has been covered a few times recently.. it can be done by using a static page which you select in your admin settings and choosing the right theme can result in some very decent results.

But ultimately WordPress IS primarily a blog

@jsdelv-Here’s more information about creating a static website on WordPress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

The US$99 is for adding a number of common upgrades: purchasing a domain name, mapping your site to your domain, extra storage space, the No Ads upgrade which removes all advertising from your site and more. Please note that the Premium upgrade is per blog and per year, so you would have to renew it next year to continue using those features.

And if you never use the Posts page? :)

    @ justjennifer

all i’m going to say is, blockquotes and sniping…. how infantile

  • Unknown's avatar

@tony-I think that was an honest question asked. But whatever.

@ justjennifer, ok if it was a genuine question.. i apologise.

you seem to take issue with the statement that “WordPress is PRIMARILY a blog”.

WordPress can be used for other things like commerce with limitations in the same way for example OsCommerce with the right themes and plugin’s can be used as a makeshift blog. they are both CMS’s but if you ask their respective developers neither would claim that they are primarily anything other than what they are.

The software is what you make of it. Sometimes users find ways of using things that devs never intended. :)

    Back to the blockquotes:

WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog.

That’s from the org front page. There’s been a shift in concept for a while, ever since it was possible to add pages to wp, I believe. Google around for “wordpress as cms”. In fact, there is a movement afoot to get back to being only blogging software. Since wp is open source, someone has forked it to do just that. Search for “Ghost”

Cheers, my time at the computer this morning has run out.

    WordPress.COM cannot.
