Wanting to clear up the bottom of my blog
-
I use the Syntax Theme for my blog. I can’t figure out why there are two identical columns at the bottom of the page. May I (or will you) remove the column on the left and leave me with the one that’s centered?

Hi there!
Both of those of columns are full of Widgets. Here’s how you can go down just to one:
- Open up your blog’s Customizer
- Click “Widgets”
- Choose the “Footer Sidebar 1” widget area
- For each widget, click its title to open the options, then click “Remove” (example)
This will leave you only the widget in Footer Sidebar 2.
Let me know if that gets you where you want to be. :)

Perfect! Great fix.
Now, just two more quick things while I’ve got you:
Why can’t I indent?
What does the Search bar do? I can’t get it to do anything -
Both good questions. :)
Why can’t I indent?
It’s really common in web formatting, so most themes on WordPress.com don’t indent paragraphs and actively strip them out as whitespace. If indenting is important to you for things like poetry, we all the HTML ‘pre’ tag for preformatted text:

What does the Search bar do? I can’t get it to do anything
The search bar will search all the content on your pages and posts and will return anything that has that exact phrase. Best way to test this out is with a known result. So for example, try typing “starting” in the search bar — you’ll get the post titled “Starting” back as a result.
Since you only have 4 posts up, there’s not all that much content to search for yet so some words or phrases may yield no results. It’s only because your current posts don’t contain those exact words. It’s not a “fuzzy search” like Google where possibly relevant content will be returned in place of exact matches.
Best,
-Alex G.
