Wanting to make HOME static and another page the post page and getting confused

    I’d like to switch a post and a page and getting a bit lost. I’d like to make my landing page – which is now classified as a post – my static page. I’d like to make one of my pages the place where I post updates.

    When I went to Settings –> reading and made the switch I obviously did the wrong thing. The page which I changed to my posts then just directed to my Home page.

    I’ve watched the video and thought I nailed it but no. Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong?

    I’d like to make my landing page – which is now classified as a post – my static page.

    Posts and Pages are completely different and not understanding that and that here is no automatic way to transfer content between the two is what has thrown you off.

    You will need to create two static pages. You will need to copy and paste the content you currently have in a post into a static page landing page called “Welcome” or whatever you choose.

    Then you will need to create a static page for your post to appear on called “Blog” or whatever you choose. After you do that you will designate the pages accordingly here > Settings > Reading

    Thanks for that. I have successfully re-created my landing page now.

    However when I went to Readings –> settings to designate this page as my static home page and another page which I call “current sessions” as my post page and saved the changes – the page called “current sessions” now has the “not found” message on it.

    Every time I make a change do I have to Add a new page and then copy/paste from the one I have now?

    Also – I think I’m confused because the instructions say that in order to make one page the place where posts are made it’s referred to as a page – not a post.

    If your “posts page” says “file not found”, maybe it’s because you have zero posts?

    If you want to change the contents of your front page, you can simply edit that page.
