How can I change the page that my website initially comes to? My website is sheffielddevelopmentproperties.co.uk and I’d like my ‘home’ page to be displayed immediately, as it is not. How can I do this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there
It looks like sheffielddevelopmentproperties.co.uk is hosted by 1and1 and not here at WordPress.Com.

What you describe is indeed possible, but the software that runs WordPress sites not hosted here at WordPress.Com is slightly different. I could show you how to do it with the WordPress used here, BUT that may not completely translate to the WordPress you are using.

A great place to learn the intricacies of using your flavor of WordPress:

All the documentation for sites like yours can be found here:

    But it’s WordPress, right?
It is easy to be confused by this. The WordPress software is written and maintained by the WordPress.org community, and is the blogging software that is used by over 25% of the web! Because of their commitment to Open Source code, ease of use, and popularity, WordPress software is installed by many hosting providers for use by their subscribers.
Automattic owns the hosting service known to us as WordPress.com.
BUT the software that you are using on your self hosted blog has no real connection with WordPress.com, beyond the name. They don’t talk to each other (even though they are on good terms).

https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ explains many of the differences between self-hosted and sites hosted at WordPress.Com
https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com is a more who is who explanation.
    best,
    dave
