Warning: Illegal string offset 'payoff' & 'subtitle'

  Hello, after updating wordpress I see the following error messages on every page

  Warning: Illegal string offset ‘payoff’ in /home/masterco/public_html/wp-content/themes/master/page.php on line 40

  Warning: Illegal string offset ‘payoff’ in /home/masterco/public_html/wp-content/themes/master/functions/lib/pix_functions.php on line 805

  Warning: Illegal string offset ‘subtitle’ in /home/masterco/public_html/wp-content/themes/master/page.php on line 178

  Warning: Illegal string offset ‘payoff’ in /home/masterco/public_html/wp-content/themes/master/comments.php on line 20

  I checked the coding for the first one and it’s

  <?php
  if($meta_title[‘payoff’]!=”) {
  $the_title = $meta_title[‘payoff’];
  } else {
  $the_title = get_the_title();
  }

  Line 178 is

  <?php if($meta_title_post[‘subtitle’]!=”){?><p class=”subtitle”><?php echo $meta_title_post[‘subtitle’]; ?></p><?php } ?>

  Could someone please help me out ???
