Was my post flagged?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just wrote up a post similar to the others ones of my blog. I think it may have been inappropriately/prematurely flagged because about 30 seconds after I posted it, I received an email from WordPress that someone “liked” it. When I back to review all of my posts, I noticed that this latest one wasn’t on the list. It doesn’t show up anywhere on my site or in the tags I used. The only evidence that I ever posted is the url of the post, and even though the titles and keywords are there, there is no text in the post.

I think my post was mistakenly assumed to some sort of “hate” post because it included Bible verse and the term “gay” (even though homosexuality actually had nothing to do with the post!). Is there any way I can have the post reviewed (and restored)?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the post title or if you know it then what is the URL?

Have your tried to recover a post revision?

Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.

If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

Or did you create your post on the front page of WordPress.com?
    http://wordpress.com/#!/post/

    Advice:
Create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

Or use an offline blog editor so you always have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

I think I created it on the front page?…I can’t remember exactly which page is which because I’m relatively new to WP but I clicked on something on the top right of the page that said, “New post” or something to that effect.

    This is the URL: http://buenablog.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/whos-afraid-of-the-dark-1-john-418/

And the post was titled, “Who’s Afraid of the Dark? (1 John 4:18).”

I’ll go through the steps to try to recover the post revision but in the future I’l definitely copy my posts so a page offline so that I have a backup. I usually do that when I’m writing longer pieces but I’ll have to start doing that with everything. Thanks.

Unfortunately, that New Post button is part of the problem. The Autosave doesn’t work with it, although it appears to, and this is a known bug. You should be able to avoid this by going to Dashboard->Posts->New Post to create your posts. Then the autosave works.

Wait….hang on. I just realized that the URL I provided actually links to a new post I was working on (there’s no text there because I only created the title: “Who’s Still Afraid of the Dark? (1 John 4:18). What I don’t understand is how the WP e-mail I received after posting specifically mentions my original/actual published post (Who’s Afraid of the Dark…”) but links to a completely different post (that is still in draft form).
Even if the post wasn’t autosaved, I just don’t see how it was erased after being definitely posted, as someone left feedback.

But from now on, I will definitely just utilize the Dashboard to create posts.

That’s a DIFFERENT, and also reported, bug. I’m sorry to say that you started with two serious bugs on WP.com; it is usually much better, pretty much bug-free, and we all cannot wait for staff to find these bugs and fix them.

Got it. In a way, I actually feel a bit better knowing that it was a glitch and not some iteration of a “shoot first, ask questions later” approach to managing posts. Thankfully my post was relatively brief so I’ll just recreate.

Definitely appreciate the rapid responses. Thanks for your help!

I’m so happy you will be following my advice so this won’t be a perpetual issue for you. You’re welcome and happy blogging!
