Was my purchase of a domain name through wordpress.com successful?

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to buy a personal domain name for my blog and I’m worried I screwed something up. I didn’t buy the domain name through godaddy.com or anything like that…I thought I was able to buy it through wordpress.com and that the domain name would be mapped automatically to the blog. I made a purchase through wordpress.com, but I can’t tell if it was for the domain name and the mapping or just the mapping. On my dashboard, though, it does say that my primary domain name is the one I want it to be and thought I bought (www.chiasma.asiteforthought.com). When I try to use this domain name I get the Server Not Found message from Firefox. I understand that the mapping can take time but, like I mentioned above, I’m worried that I haven’t properly purchased the domain name and that the mapping will never work because of this. Do I have to purchase a domain name from godaddy.com or a similar sight and then map it to wordpress, or will the domain name I thought I purchased through wordpress eventually start working properly?

  • Hi,

The purchase was successful, though it was only for domain mapping.

You can only register a root domain — asiteforthought.com — subdomains, by the way the work technically, can only be assigned after the root domain is purchased.

I’ve removed the subdomain mapping and credited your account for the amount. If you’d like to register “asiteforthought.com”, you can do so via your Store->Domains page. The credit will appear automatically on the checkout page.

If you have any questions, please do let me know. Cheers!

Thanks for the response and for the help. I’ve gone back and revised the domain name so that it now reads: chiasmaasiteforthought.com and I purchased it through wordpress (and I did notice the $13 credit for the mapping). The page still won’t display, but I’m assuming this is because of the 24-48 delay.

Have I done everything properly now? Should I be able to expect the domain name to be working for the site within the next 24-48 hours?

Again, thanks so much for you help and please let me know if there’s any info you need from me.

  • Everything looks good from my end and your domain is working for me (so it should begin working for you soon as well).

Please let me know if you need anything else. Cheers!
