Waving the White Flag — How do I go from .org to .com?
-
Hi there,
A few years ago I decided I needed the custom freedom of a .org site. Today it’s sluggish and I’d rather spend my time writing than I would on being a webmaster.
Is there a way to transfer my blog from .org to .com so that I do not lose the history of my current site?
Thanks,
EzraThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please be sure to read this first http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Then here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org
To domain map from your .wordpress.com blog URLs to your domain URL then you need to purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade.
Read first http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Then see http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thanks @timethief! Very helpful. What will this mean to my history — the number of views per day, search terms, etc.? Is there any way to keep those?

Domain mapping is a 301 permanent redirect. Google recommends using a 301 redirect to change the URL of a page as it is shown in search engine results. http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=93633
As for transferring stats, etc. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

If you map you existing domain name to your new blog here then the URL’s of you Posts will be the same as they are here and in Google (you are using the same Perma Link structure on your blog now as WordPress.COM uses) – so when someone clicks on a Google search link they should end up on the same Post.

If you are using Jetpack stats on your old blog, then it might be possible for staff to transfer your stats as well.
-
@ezrafisch, if your .org blog has been running Jetpack, I should be able to capture your stats. If that’s the case, please post the URL of the .org blog with the stats currently, and the .com blog that would be receiving this data.
It would be best to do this once the WordPress.com blog is otherwise ready to go and you are redirecting your traffic to our hosting.
