way to ensure a media file has a certain name without numbers being appended

When I delete a pdf media file, say file.pdf, wait a week, and upload another file.pdf, it gets named file1.pdf. The way WordPress.com hosting works, if you upload a file and then delete it another file with the same name will get renamed automatically. Is there a way to ensure a certain file has a certain name without numbers being appended?

    Hey @markjason2017,

I’ll try to best my answer your question and where I’m getting at is that you want the name to stay the same after uploading it to wordpress.com?

If so here is an example of how you can do that. If there is a file called dog.jpg already on WordPress.com you should already have the file named as something different like dogandcat.jpg. So, that it will still remain the same after uploading it.

No matter what site you are using if you have a file already named and upload something with the same name it will either replace the original file or give it another name like file1.jpg.

I hope this answers your question!

    Best,
    Bill
