Way to Import Posts from Livejournal?

    Thanks Drmike, I knew that would always be an option. It’ll be a pain figuring out all the possible entities, the actual replace with S&R would be a doddle after that.

    I’m also concerned that my quote marks in my embedded HTML (eg when I’ve linked to something) will get well and truly snarled. I appreciate this is more to do with the LJ export than with the import at the WP end.

    The LJ export doesn’t seem to do comments either. Sigh. I’m considering leaving my blog where it is for a while to see if the export utility improves.

    Meanwhile, I looked at the link I provided above to see why timethief thought you needed backend access to see what I was describing (the thought never entered my head). And lo! quote marks, HTML etc all working beautifully, not showing the encoding at all. Not like how it was when I posted the question and the link.

    Very odd. More experiments required. Could this be related to theme choice I wonder?

    You can already make an export with comments using ljArchive, but this is fairly pointless as wordpress won’t import them anyway. So even if LJ get their act together, you’d still have to wait for WP to rewrite the import script.

    Im still surprised that wordpress.com hasn’t changed their import script to import the comments. as well. Apparently it’s just a few lines of change in the php file

    Best bet would be to add it into the trac as a ticket over at wordpress.org as it would be a regular wordpress issue, not a wp.com one it appears.

    Hey Dr. Mike and everyone else,
    Just joined recently from LiveJournal and wondering if anyone has any new information concerning how to import my entries from there. I don’t care about the comments or anything, but just want to import my entries.

    I’m trying to leave LiveJournal, but can’t get the ljarchive tool to work now that it’s no longer support and is open source.. not sure if LJ changed something? anyone have any other tool or suggestions? Tells me the server isn’t available..

    If the server at Live Journal is not available for export then can you login to Live Journal and post to their forum to determine what’s going on over there?
