Way to take blog temporarily offline?

Is there a way to take my entire blog (or individual pages, if it has to be that way, but that sounds awfully tedious) offline? I’m creating this site to replace the site our organization currently uses, and while I’m working on it I don’t want it to come up when people search for our organization. (I want them only to see our other site that’s currently in use.) However, I’ve already hit “publish” on a ton of stuff. Is there any way I can temporarily take it all offline until I’m finished with it? Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

On a free hosted WordPress.com blog the only option we have is to change the blog visibility to “private”. See here for privacy settings > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Your blog is indexed by Google (13 results) and that means anyone using Goog;le and clicking those links when the blog is set to private will experience a “404” (page not found) error message. Your blog is not indexed by Bing.
