Wayward category name
-
In online mode, the categories menu appears (as expected) at top of blog. But, unexpectedly, the word NEW appears in caps, preceding one category name. Online, therefore, that category name reads NEW Arts & Commerce. Click on that category name — you see just empty space, no post.
BUT, in dashboard mode, the categories list includes only the name Arts & Commerce — n o t NEW Arts & Commerce.
Since NO such category name shows in the *dashboard*, I can’t delete it — NOR can I correct the embarrassing emptiness one is forced to access via that wayward category.
Finally, in the dashboard, there’s also NO html version of the Categories LIST– so I can’t delete CODE for the category name visible *online* as NEW Arts & Commerce….
Thanks in advance for your help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
I think “NEW Arts & Commerce” is a page not a category. In your Dashboard, go to Pages > All Pages and see if there is a page named that.
You can also check your menu to make sure it’s not been added there accidentally:

Oh, thank you!! You are a genius – it WAS a page. My faith in Community is restored. I will check menu, too, so I know more about that.
Best to you, Honey.Ellen

You’re welcome!
Right now, the way your site is setup, anytime you create a new page, it automatically goes to that top menu.
If you create a custom menu

then you’ll be able to control what links go on the menu. -
Sometimes friends help me with the tech side of blogging. (I keep wanting to *write,* since I believe that’s my strength — whereas I’m so
s l o w to understand tech stuff.)
A friend did create a custom menu on my blog, and — till now — I didn’t know its function. (Certainly it IS helpful to know the tech stuff I can get my head around without spending hours in the effort.) Thanks for making this clear enough, even for me! -
You’re welcome.
It’s good to know the tech stuff, too, because it opens your mind up to different possibilities to make your blog better.
I recommend reading http://learn.wordpress.com/ if you want to know your way around WordPress better.

I do take your point, Honey, and it’s a good one. But if I try to read a whole volume about tech, I will be discouraged in a hurry. IOW, counterproductive.
When my latest post (fewer than 500 words but lots of writing work, as they all are) did not arrive in my email inbox — although the previous one had promptly shown up… I eagerly consulted the forum
I read that I could fix the problem in Reader. Great!
But I still don’t have that new post in my inbox, and I WANT it there.
If I make a change and publish again, will I get it? Or is it too late for that post?
PS, I will ask a follower if they received the New Post (but I suspect not).
What do you advise?!
