We cannot get tables generated in MS Word to show properly formatted on the blog
-
I am one of a dozen or so bloggers from an organization that just started using WordPress for our organization’s new blog. I have wasted several hours over two days trying to upload a simple blog post.
It was composed in MS Word and includes three very simple tables. No matter how I try to copy and paste, the tables show up unformatted. I have tried multiple times to correct that in text mode by making a few simple HTML changes. When I save the work, the WordPress editor apparently eliminates them and the table remains unformatted, unattractive, and unacceptable.
I made GIFs of the tables and attempted to insert them as pictures. I searched and searched and searched for a way to insert a picture… and for instructions that could help me do this. All I keep finding is “instructions” that do not match my screen. For example, the instructions say to hit some “insert media” button that is supposedly on all the pages I’m working on… yet I cant find ANYTHING ANYWHERE that even has the word MEDIA on it.
Could anyone please tell me if WordPress has the capability of allowing a simple table to be posted without making it look like an 8-year-old did it? What can I expect if I try to post video or other media?
I would be delighted to work through this with the help of written instructions in the help section if anyone could point me to instructions that (1) match the page I’m working on and (2) make even a modicum of sense.
Thank you…
Tony Hallett

1) You upload and insert images via the “Add Media” button of the post/page editor:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/2) Word isn’t designed for the web. Copypasting from Word into the Visual editor is guaranteed to mes things up. If you wish to compose your posts outside the WP editor, you can try Windows Live Writer.
3) If the so-called Text editor eliminated the changes you tried to make, then your changes were wrong code. For instructions on table coding, study this article of mine:

Thank you Justpi. Your article (item #3) is helpful. However, I just don’t have the time to go through all that just to include a few tables inside my post. As for the “add media”… I’ve been researching and investigating all my adult life… as a police officer, a computer programmer, an academic researcher, a technology transfer administrator, a user of the Internet when it was still ARPANET, and a telecommunications system designer… I guarantee that a button or any other assembly of the words “Add Media” are nowhere on the page I’m working on… in edit mode or not.
I will probably just replace the tables with text to get this out the door then do my posting elsewhere. This is ridiculous.

You’re welcome.
The Add Media button is right above the other tools of the post/page editor:

If you can’t see it while editing a post or a static page, then you’re probably just a contributor to the blog (instead of administrator, editor or author).
