Web Attacks

    Tonight every time I log onto any WordPress page I am getting multiple ‘Malicious Domains Request 3’ attacks. My virus ware is blocking them, but it seems to be based at your end.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there, I’ve tagged WordPress.com staff to help you with this issue. You’ll likely receive a response within a few hours from a staff member: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

    Hope this gets resolved soon. :)

    Over the day I have discovered that I get multiple ‘Malicious Domains Request 3’ attacks when ever I visit any page associated with any page connected to WordPress–including anyone’s blog post pages. However the attack seems to be more wide spread than that. I have gotten ‘Malicious Domains Request 3’ visiting some news sites and pages not related to WordPress. I have also gotten ‘Malicious Domains Request 2’ attacks visiting government (usgs.gov) sites.

    More information on this web attack:
    Attacking computer: loadsource.org (2606:4700:e0::ac40:810b, 443)
    Source address: loadsource.org (2606:4700:e0::ac40:610b)

    Solution: Since every attack was being blocked, I simply instructed Norton to stop notifying me of the continued attacks.

    Hi karllueck,

    What is the address of the site you are seeing these errors for? I’ve checked jabberwockystew.net and can’t see any issues with this site, which suggests there is another one you need help with.

    Just let me know and we can go from there.

    See the note above. I was getting this attack from several sites, including every page on WordPress–but not any google site. I finally gave up and simply set my virus protect to not tell me when it had blocked these attacks.

  • @karllueck were the sites hosted here on our servers, or were they self-hosted installations like https://jabberwockystew.net/ ? Did you have this error when posting in our forum?

    Noting WordPress.com (the service, and the forum you’re posting to) is different from WordPress.org (the free software folks maintain on their own.) We take care of security for the sites hosted here, but if an individual installation is not well maintained, or if it has a bad plugin on it, it could indeed give you some trouble.

    If you’re referring to your own self-hosted sites, please head to wordpress.org/support (the forums for self-hosted sites) for further help with this. Others may be having the same issue, too.

    If you aren’t sure whether the sites were self-hosted or hosted here with us, send a few links to affected sites and we will check them for you.

  • I meant to include this link as well:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    This explains some of the differences between our service and the free software. Hoping that helps clear up any confusion.
