Web designer refuses to give me the email address he used
-
Hi, I got a web designer to help me with my website. He is now refusing to give me the email address he used. He is holding me to ransom as he wants to create my next website and I don’t want him to. He was supposed to use the email address associated with the website and didn’t. How can I find out the email address he used and change it. Many thanks

Hi there,
What is the URL of the site in reference? I want to confirm that the site is hosted with us here at WordPress.com. If not, you’ll need to reach out to your site host in order to address the issue you are having with your web designer. Let us know and we’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. It is http://www.nomorecoldnights.org.uk
I appreciate your help.

Thanks for the additional info! Hi there,
unfortunately, the bad news is that we can’t help directly, because we don’t host nomorecoldnights.org.uk on our WordPress.com managed hosting. As a result we don’t have the ability to take a closer look at your site.
Instead your host (Bluehost) uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com. Specifically we use a custom login system on WordPress.com (for enhanced security) that also helps prevent this kind of lockout from occurring.
The good news is that if you have access to the server control panel through Bluehost, it is always possible to regain access to your self-hosted WordPress site. This WordPress.org support article will walk you through it: https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
Please try contacting Bluehost support for direct assistance in completing the steps in that article; they would be in the best position to help. Once you have gained access to the site you could then remove the other admin.
Hope that points you in the right direction!

Thank you so much, the Webdesigner told me he used wordpress, I really appreciate your help. I’ll try and see if I can get the log in and hopefully I’ll be able to sort it out.
Thanks again
Kind regards

You bet, Sarah. He may well have used the free WordPress software, just with a different hosting company: https://wordpress.com/go/website-building/wordpress-com-vs-wordpress-org/
If you bought the hosting directly, you might contact them to see if they can help you regain access.
Good luck!
