am I able to get a free trial for wordpress.org? I don’t want to start paying for something I might not like.

I don’t think you understand this clearly. You can have your chosen webhost dowload a free blog template for your blog from wordpress.org. It will be on different software than our blogs are here. You pay the webhost monthly. You do not pay wordpress.org anything. There are some web hosts listed here http://wordpress.org/hosting
OOPS! and I forgot to say that when you contract a webhost to host your blog, and that person does work on your behalf, and carries your blog on his or her servers for you, you cannot expect him or her do so on a free trial basis.
Ask yourself: Why should the webhost pay for bandwidth you are using and then not be paid in return? That wouldn’t make any sense, would it? :)
Also because you’re a young person I want to mention that finding a webhost who will give you the kind of support you have here is rare. You pay for what you get and many people report that they get less than what they paid for.
If the issues you have with your blog are focused on appearance then moving to webhosting may not be the right choice for you. Would you care to share what your issues are? If you do, maybe other bloggers can give you so practical advice on ways to address them without leaving wordpress.com :) -
