Do I need to have external web hosting for my wordpress website to be activated properly with my own domain name (which I’ve just bought)?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You do not. Your domain will merely replace your ____.wordpress.com domain.

Can I purchase and add special themes through the normal wordpress.com (considerin I haven’t taken on the uploading of software to my own hardrive/wordpress.org thingy)…?

On WordPress.com, you can select from a variety of themes to change your blog’s appearance. You can read more about customizing the appearance and theme of your blog on WordPress.com here:

We offer over 210 themes, both free themes and premium themes created by leading theme companies. You can view all of our themes and filter them by specific criteria here:
You cannot, however purchase WordPress themes outside of WordPress.com and uploadthem to your WordPress.com site. The only themes that work with WordPress.com sites are the ones at http://theme.wordpress.com/.
