Web hosting question

    To themagicrobot:

OK thank you so much. Thank you for explaining domain mapping. Very helpful :)

So, I understand now that I need to find a service to pay for web hosting.

    Another question:
    (1) At wordpress.org, the following hosts are recommended: Bluehost, Dreamhost and Siteground
    Source: https://wordpress.org/hosting/

    (2) At wordpress.com, the only host that is recommended is wordpress hosting.
    Source: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

My question: do I need to switch to wordpress.org (instead of wordpress.com) to have another hosting provider, instead of wordpress, as my hosting provider?

I noticed that the cost of wordpress.com hosting is more than double bluehost hosting.

What options do I have, and do you recommend, for a hosting provider for a wordpress.com site? Thank you for your help!

    Lori

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi Lori –

It sounds like you’re going to be better served by an environment that manages your site hosting like WordPress.com. I want to make sure you’re informed about what’s involved with the different options, so you can make the best decision.

For example, our team handles all of the back end details involved with having a well performing online presence. Stuff like updates, seo, spam, security, mobile optimization, and so on. We have staff available to help you with questions 7 days per week. Versus, if you run a stand alone WordPress installation with a different hosting provider you assume the responsibility for all of those things and it will surely eat in to the time that you have for creating content or running a business. We see it time and time again when folks wind up locked out of their site, or the site is down and broken, and they come here looking for help. Sadly all we can do is try and point them in the right direction for help because they are using the other version of WordPress and not on our service.

Our hosting plans are visible on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ These can be paid for by the month, or by the year. The yearly option has a good savings. It is refundable for 30 days. We can upgrade/downgrade at any point depending on the project demands and budget.

We also have a specialized team who can build the site for you if that is preferable. Those details are on https://builtbywp.com/
