Web Master Tools code won’t save
-
I have the same problem as this thread posted in September 2010
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/need-help-with-webmaster-tools-verification?replies=3
A solution there would have save a posting here. :-)
Anyway – when I copy and paste the code from Bing – everything is stripped out but the actual content after the content = enclosed in the ” quotes. I even tried changing the double quotes (provided by Bing) to single quotes as shown in the example.
Thanks for your attention! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Are you following the instructions given here?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ -
Yes. When I copy and paste the tag info the only thing that saves is just the data.
i.e from Bing I copied and pasted:
<meta name=”msvalidate.01″ content=”EF05A76DECB1BC3EE1953B917A9B67A3″ />but when I clicked on the submit (or save I forget now) button, the only part that stayed saved was the EF05A76DECB1BC3EE1953B917A9B67A3
Then when I tried to verify – I got errors. The same happens with google and yahoo. -

This seems to happen from time to time and I’m not sure if perhaps the search engines are just overly busy or what. If you are following the instructions in the link that @airodyssey references and having problems, perhaps wait for a few hours and try again. If that does not work, then since none of us volunteers have access to the backend of things here, you will need to contact staff directly at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ .
I’ve also tagged this thread for staff attention and they may reply here if they notice it.

Thanks, I’ve been trying it – off and on for the last 24 hours. I copied and pasted. I manually typed it. I even changed the copy and paste to more closely match the samples (the samples used single quotes).
As I said – it just saves the part that follows the code “content=”
At first I thought maybe I just couldn’t see the html code and only the text part enclosed in the quotes – once I submitted it…but I could not get a response from any of the 3 search engines – but had gotten yahoo and google to respond immediately to a non-wordpress site that I was working on at the same time. But to be sure – I’ll try it one more time and then contact the support group! -
I would contact staff directly then as it sounds like there is something they need to look into. It could be that the code the search engines are using has changed although it would be rather strange for all three to change at the same time. Of course stranger things have happened.

One other thought: Go to settings > privacy and make sure your site is set to allow search engines (top selection).

Thank you, thesacredpath was correct. It would have made it easier if I had known the html code does not display in the authentication box after you paste it and submit. But I tried again today and all three engines accepted it immediately.
