web server IP

    Hi,

I have an existing domain which I want to use for wordpress themes. Currently it says that I cannot register the domain when I choose to map it. But I found out in the support that I need to change the name server. However I would like to keep my existing host provider since I have a mailing system with them. So with that said I was told that I need to provide my host web server IP so that they can enable the connection of my domain with wordpress. Can someone help to provide me with web server IP for WordPress.com??

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In your situation you have two choices:

    1. You can map your domain here at WordPress.com and set it up to use your current email host.

    2. You can setup a self-hosted WordPress.org site and keep your DNS and domain info as is now.

For more on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org please see this article: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Thanks for the reply.
If I go with option 2, then can I still use the themes available with WordPress.com? I saw a premium theme and would really like to use it.
Also with option two, how do I proceed? I mean where do I start to setup my self-hosted domain?

    Thanks!

Many of the domains available here are also available in the WordPress.org themes repository.

    Thanks for the link.
So where and how can I start with option two?
I am very new to this hence I am very lost.

WordPress.com may be easier for you to use, since we can walk you through almost everything here. This would include any sort of WordPress issues along the way. If you choose to go with option 2, you should talk to your host about getting WordPress installed and setup. WordPress.com keeps a short list of recommend WordPress.org hosts here: http://get.wp.com/hosting/

for me I just want something simple. And I did use WordPress.com before but the prior setting was already done for me. SO I have no knowledge about the initial set up.
Currently my host told me that they only need to know the web server IP of WordPress.com in order to help me map the existing domain.
I had a look at the recommended host, but if I go with them then this will mean that I will incur extra cost since my current host will not charge me extra for adding your web server IP.
With that said, is it possible for me to get WordPress.com web server IP?

For me the bottom line is I want to use my existing URL to use a WordPress theme and to keep my mailing host.

With either option, you can keep your mailing host. You do not have to use one of the recommended hosts, you can use any host you like. You can ask your current host to install WordPress for you on their servers or you can follow the steps in this article to manage everything through WordPress.com. This article will walk you through each step very thoroughly and will answer most questions you and your current host have: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Yes I show this article hence I asked my current host provider to change the DNS setting but they told me that it would be best to have the web server IP. If I change the DNS setting then I would need to change the host provider.
    Hope that this makes sense.

There is no IP to give here. That is why the article is recommended.
