Web Site

Apart from blogs, does WordPress have any web site products? I’m looking for a template for a combined web and blog.
Or is WordPress affiliated with someone else that does? -
Creating a website with WordPress is easy. Here’s a guide to get you started: http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
As far as templates, we can use any of the 200+ found here: http://theme.wordpress.com/

Yes, I saw that link; I did do the ‘search’ before I came to the forum :
“A blog is a type of website that shows that newest content at the top of the page. A blog can also be one part of a website with multiple pages. On WordPress.com, you can easily add pages and other goodies to your blog in seconds.”I actually need a web page WITH blog functionality.
So, does WordPress have this or is WordPress affiliated with a web provider?

Did you bother to read the part about adding as many static Pages as you want? No need to have your latest Post on the front page – you can have a static Page if you want
-
This is exactly what WordPress does.
You don’t have to have the blog page as the front page of your site. If you want a more traditional website with blog functionality, you’ll want to set a static page as the front page of your site, as described in that Support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/#create-a-home-page Then set the blog page to be a different page, such as “posts” or “journal” or “news” etc.
You can add as many static Pages to your site as you want. There is no limit (other than keeping it simple for your site visitors). See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
Just be aware that the blog page is the only dynamic page on your site, updating with posts you create from “New Posts” and the only page that creates an RSS feed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/

Yes, I already have that with this current blog.
Okay. Lets try a different angle.
I was doing some searches on examples of web come blog and found a WordPress product that wasn’t the same as your blog theme templates.
Those ‘other’ WordPress things I was looking at was what really interested me.
I know this sounds vague but what it comes down to are some template examples, that are not in your current listing of themes.
Do you know what I’m talking about? -
You can choose from 200++ Themes here at WordPress.COM – some of which have full width Pages and some with full width Posts also I think –
the WordPress.ORG software has many thousands of themes that can be used

How odd. With the new fonts in the forums the tilde character is gone. So ~~ @auxclass was supposed to be “waving at auxclass”. (which is another test)
WordPress.com users are limited to the 200+ templates we have available in our Dashboard and shown in the Theme Showcase. Many of them can be customized further.
As auxclass pointed out, anything else you find on the internet is not meant for WordPress.com but WordPress.org

Morning Morning Jennifer
~~ What? another great leap forward? no wavy thingy?
The .ORG & .COM is a bit confusing – my solution is to just tell people that I have a web site and skip the part about using “blog” software – keep in mind that many companies such as CNN and several radio stations use WordPress.COM VIP hosting – yes custom themes in some cases but still “blog” software
-
Okay. This is making more sense now. It could have been Word.Org that I found.
It’s just that it was a really good looking ‘template’ that I saw but for the life of me I can’t find it again. I was sure I bookmarked but….
I’ll try and calm down and approach this more sensibly. Not that I understand there is a difference between Word.Com and Word.Org I should be more able to get my head around it.
I thank you VERY MUCH for your time.
Do you work with Jenia? Because I’m sending her a care package from Australia full of Tim Tam biscuits. If you’re there with Jenia make sure you grab a biscuit or two – it’s the least for putting up with a dumb arse in me. -
You be welcome & good luck
I moved to using the WordPress software because it is easy to use and much easier to make a web site than other methods – and the software calls up the search engines each time a Post (not Page) is made – that is why we recommend you put as much content as you can as Posts – better SEO or search engine stuff
No we don’t work with Jenia – both Jennifer and I are unpaid volunteers – I live in the Pacific Northwest part of the United States and Jennifer lives outside the U.S.
-
That’s not right because you so called ‘unpaid workers’ do an awful lot of stuff for us. Unfair. But you must have your reasons.
I love the WordPress product, but it’s not that easy trying to figure it out for yourself – I’m not too good at understanding your online help links.
I’m sure my blog go do far better for me than how I’m using it but…. I’ve more or less reached the limits of understanding how to do it thus far. -
If you haven’t, the http://learn.wordpress.com/ is a very helpful guide to getting started. And if you have questions, that’s what we’re here for. :)
-
Yes Darlings, but a lot of the time I don’t know what the question is…..
Here’s on for you. My bloggers love commenting amongst each other – can WordPress facilitate a forum? -
No. WordPress.com can’t host a forum but you can register one elsewhere and link to it from your site here using a Custom Header.

Thank you. I should never answer technical questions after celebrating James Bond’s 50th anniversary. Tee many martoonies.
-
Can you suggest a forum host that is easy to use like WordPress is?
Frankly, I wouldn’t know where to start.
