Web Site Down – Redirect Problem?
-
Hi everyone,
My WP site is http://roberthlevin.wordpress.com/. Inexplicably seems to be down. And I’ve had no page views since April 24, when I added a couple posts. My domain is http://www.roblevin.net, hosted by 1and1.com. I called 1and1 and they said it was a problem with WP.
Error message on Mozilla Firefox reads:
“The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.”
I also tried from Chrome on wife’s computer and received a differently worded error message:
“This web page has a redirect loop.”
Please help! I would be most grateful!
Rob

There is no support for forwarding domains here. Although roblevin.net has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers. If your domain is mapped to a self-hosted site, then your configuration may be fine as currently set up. If you wish to host your site at WordPress.com, you will need to update your nameservers as outlined below.
To learn about how to correctly map an existing domain, please see our documentation. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain If you’re not sure whether you own this domain or not, the WHOIS database record may help you out. http://www.whois.net/whois/roblevin.net
We require that your name server configuration include only the following servers or their numeric equivalents:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMYour name servers are as follows:
NS-US.1AND1-DNS.US
NS-US.1AND1-DNS.DE
NS-US.1AND1-DNS.ORG
NS-US.1AND1-DNS.COMIf you have access to change the nameservers for this domain, please remove all nameservers not on the required list above.
roblevin.net is hosted by 1&1
WHOIS
IP Address: 50.21.178.50
Name Servers:
ns-us.1and1-dns.org
ns-us.1and1-dns.com
ns-us.1and1-dns.de
ns-us.1and1-dns.us -
Thank you, timethief. But I’m still very confused. Everything’s been working fine for the past 3-4 years with my setup. I add a couple blog posts last Thursday and it appears my site has been down since then.
Why would I suddenly have to change my DNS servers?
And it doesn’t just appear to be a redirect problem with 1and1 as my host server, because the main site, roberthlevin.wordpress.com is completely down.
Many thanks for whatever insight you can provide.
Rob

You did not purchase a domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.COM to map from http://roberthlevin.wordpress.com/ to your existing domain at http://roblevin.net/
Instead you were forwarding and eventually that always comes undone. -
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium ujpgrade bundle.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Alternatively you can contact your web host for http://roblevin.net/ and have theme remove the forwarding. Then your http://roberthlevin.wordpress.com/ will be accessible at it’s actual address again.

Your domain roblevin.net is not registered with WordPress.com and is not pointing towards a WordPress.com site:
http://who.is/whois/roblevin.net
First, contact your registrar, 1 & 1 INTERNET AG, and verify its registration status.
Then, make sure that its name servers are pointing towards WordPress.com.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=roblevin.net
Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
