web site says not safe to view

    Hi WordPress,

I recently upgraded from potomacclay.wordpress.com to potomacclay.com, and when I use the new site, before it loads, it tells me that it is potentially unsafe. If it does this for me, I’m guessing it happens for others, too. Is there a way to correct this?

    Hi!

Are you receiving the error message when you load the site through the following URL?

    http://potomacclay.com

Normally, this message would only occur when you try to load your custom domain over HTTPS. We currently can’t issue security certificates for custom domains. So, if you load your domain over HTTPS, the browser looks for a certificate. The certificate it finds is from WordPress.com (instead of potomacclay.com). The mismatch triggers the error. However, provided your visitors load your site over HTTP (most will), they should experience the error!

How can I make it so that even if it is loading in HTTPS it will not have the error message?

That would require setting up an SSL certificate for your custom domain, which isn’t something we can support for custom domains at WordPress.com yet. I’m afraid the best option would be to load your site over HTTP (which is how it should load by default when you type in potomacclay.com). Alternatively, you could setup an exception within your browser that ignores the error message. However, that would only be setup for you (wouldn’t affect your readers).
