I’m totally new to this and trying to work my way through. I have a customized header with an image.

Can anyone walk me step by step through this? I am in desprate need of hand-holding :(

“Before we show detailed stats and information about your site, we need to know you’re really the site owner.

Copy the meta tag below, and paste it into your site’s home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section.”

    Start with:

    1. Where exatly do I find the ‘head’?
    (LOL.. wasn’t kidding.. am new)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re trying to use Google’s Web Masters Tools, right?

Unfortunately you cannot do it at worpdress.com because:

    a) you cannot edit the code (add the meta tags)

    b) upload the .html file with a long string as its name (alternative to adding the meta tag)

Those tools are useful when you host yourself your blog/site… not here.

Aah.. and I was thinking how could I be so stupid not to be able to figure out. Thanks..

And.. where do I paste this string?

Thanks sooo much. I really appreciate it.

And.. where do I paste this string?

As I said, you can’t here. To paste it, you’d need to edit the code which is not possible here.

    a) you cannot edit the code (add the meta tags)

If you want to have web analytics for your blog, try Clicky… it’s kind of like Google Analytics. Perhaps it’ll be a good alternative for you.

Uh, no, you can verify with Google’s webmaster tools. I’ve done it on all my WordPress.com sites.
