I have/had a free webpage with wix.com. Upgraded for a feature I wanted. Found out the reason I opened the site (to sell my books) isn’t available without another, more costly, upgrade. Downgraded because the feature I wanted didn’t work correctly. Now they won’t renew my site as free. I am curious – if I do a webpage through wordpress is it possible to use the domain I have? How hard would it be to set the webpage using the photos I am using as backgrounds, or can I? Will people be able to purchase my books and products from my page at no additional cost? I currently have a blog with wordpress, but am inconsistent. (I need to work on that, too.) Anyway, I am in need of something simple and easy and no more games after the fact.

You can use your own domain on any of our paid plans, yes. You can either transfer the domain to us completely, or leave it registered with your current provider and just map it here.
How hard would it be to set the webpage using the photos I am using as backgrounds, or can I?
Not all themes support background images, and those that do you can only set one image as the background at a time.
I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’d like to do, though. Can you provide some more details, or perhaps an example?

That depends on what you want to sell and how you want to sell it. On WordPress.com it’s possible to sell products from a free site using a basic PayPal button and a contact form to take orders, right up to a fully-integrated online store with multiple payment and shipping options, order management, customer accounts, etc, on our Business and eCommerce plan where you can use the WooCommerce plugin.
We don’t ourselves process payments for your site, so that doesn’t cost anything extra beyond the plan you buy from us. But depending on the payment gateway plugin you choose to use, there might be additional transaction fees charged by the payments processor themselves. Any plan you buy from us also won’t include the cost of any premium plugins you buy somewhere else.
In other words you pay us for the ability to install plugins, but not for the cost of any plugins themselves, nor any service fees associated with using those plugins – those need to be paid directly to the respective service providers, if applicable.

I am delving into new waters and this is all so confusing. I didn’t even see notification of this until this morning. (I have inconsistent internet also.) Anyway, I will check into it further. This non-human contact to get answers makes it hard to explain sometimes.
I will be selling my books and some quilted throws, t-shirts I design, etc. Nothing erotic or problematic. I am not into that.
