Webpage not available problems

    Rachel,

I tested WordPress media, library, add new, choose a file and it worked fine. It’s the android tablet I’m having problems with.

    Hi there,

When you get the “Webpage not available” message on a variety of websites (not just sites hosted at WordPress.com), it’s a sign that the problem is not specific to the site you’re visiting. It could be an issue with your tablet itself or with your internet connection. You may want to contact Samsung to see if they are able to help with any tablet-specific issues with that.

If there is an issue with your tablet, that may also impact your ability to upload media to WordPress.com. I’d recommend getting the connection issues sorted out first, and then see if that resolves the media upload issues.

    Guess what Rachel, I’m back….

I have been to the geek squad at Best Buy. They assured me that it was not my tablet and there are not issues with it, but claim that our router wasn’t strong enough of a signal to support the tablet.
Since this my husband installed a Belkin router. I can access the internet, FB and other several other sites with no problems. I can no longer access WorPress without getting “webpage not available”. I only get this error with WordPress. I’m currently using my desktop computer to respond to you.

Thanks for the update — I’m glad you were able to sort out the router issues, and I’m sorry that didn’t fix the issues with WordPress.com sites. Just to confirm, are your desktop computer and tablet both connected to the same router?

Can you please try clearing the cache on your tablet? This page has more information about how to do that: http://support.bell.ca/Mobility/Smartphones_and_mobile_internet/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-8.how_to_clear_the_cachecookies_on_my_samsung

If that doesn’t help, you can also try deleting the WordPress app and reinstalling it on your tablet.

Please let me know if those steps make a difference for you.

    Rachel,
Yes, the desktop, laptop, and tablet are all connect to the same router. I did as you requested, cleared the cache. I tested the media, library, choose a file and nothing happens. I uninstalled WordPress and reinstalled it, still does not work. The “choose file” box has a red line around it??? Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking those things. If you create a new post from the WordPress app and try to insert an image directly into the post that way, does it work or do you run into problems there?

It appears that ” webpage not available” has been fixed.

I create a new post, select a photo from the gallery without problems. It’s when I want to upload images for future posts that I run into problems.

    Hi there,

Thanks for those details. I tried to reproduce the problem while uploading images on my end, but I didn’t run into the problem you had. I’m not entirely sure what’s going wrong here.

Is it possible for you to take screenshots of the error (such as the box with a red line around it), transfer those to your laptop, and upload them from there so I can take a look? Or you can upload them from your tablet to a private post on your blog so I can look at them there. That may help me understand the exact issue with the image uploads.

Sorry, I said “laptop” but I meant your desktop computer!

    Rachel, we are almost there.

I know can access the “choose file”, and it gets me into a window that lets me select “document”. The next window is one that I haven’t seen before. (I’ll try and send you the image) Once I select the image the next step is to “upload”. It does not allow me to upload.

Spoke too soon. It’s back to the red line around the box and I can’t choose a file. I’ll send you the images from my laptop not the desktop.

Thanks for explaining the issue and for uploading that screenshot. I checked with our mobile developers, and they are aware of some issues when trying to upload media with that media uploader on certain mobile devices. They are working on a fix for that, but for now the media upload on that page may not work.

In the meantime, we recommend uploading media directly into posts with the WordPress app. If you aren’t ready to publish a post yet, you can upload the media and save the post as a draft, so you can finish it later.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to fix this for you right now, but our team is working on that feature to make it better for mobile devices!

    Rachel,

    Thanks for trying….

Rachel, I have posted some drafts in the past, but could not find them. How do I retrieve them?

  • Unknown's avatar

I found it. Sorry to have bothered you.
