Webpage Speed
-
I have optimised my images and only have minimal amount of information and images on my homepage. It is still taking nearly 10 seconds to load. I am still using the free service at the moment, as I am looking to change providers. Could this be the reason its taking to long to load?
Thank you -
Hi there, could you send a link to the site you’re having trouble with?
Please note these forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com. For help with a site hosted somewhere else, you’ll need to use the forums for self-managed WordPress installations instead.
Also, if you’re wondering whether it’s an issue with your internet provider, try https://webpagetest.org/ — that will generate a report to say how long the site took to load.

My current website loads in just under 3 seconds and I’m using the same sort of layout, text and images.
I’d heard so many good things about WordPress, but didn’t want to make the full transition across until I was happy.http://Www.rcphotographystudio.com (current website)
Thank you

Hi there,
Both your new and current site loaded immediately for me (both 1 second). Are you still having issues with loading on your end?
-
It’s just the stats I’m getting back from the GTmetrix site. It’s loading fine on my end, but the stats are saying its taking nearly 10 seconds to load
-
Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with RackSpace.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.

I’m asking about the free site hosted by WordPress, not the site I currently own via photobiz.
My photobiz site is showing decent stats for loading speed so that’s no problem.
The problem is with http://www.robertcarterphotography.wordpress.com
Which stats are showing a slow load speed of 10 seconds. -
What I’m wanting to know, is if I upgraded to a paid service, would the load times change at all?
Does the free service get redirected before loading?
I’m just wanting to get to the bottom of it before I sign up for an annual subscription. -
Ah sorry about that, I misread.
I’m seeing a load time of 7 seconds at https://gtmetrix.com/reports/robertcarterphotography.wordpress.com/0FHVMg48
And a load time of 6.3 seconds at https://www.webpagetest.org/result/200605_JK_29838c96531ba92c73f4315f02f3075c/
The biggest single impact is still coming from the images.
One other major difference to keep in mind is that we do run ads on free sites here, which your current site doesn’t have.
The ads are removed with any paid plan.

Brilliant, thanks for that.
I’ve resized my images down to 900px on the long edge. Is there anything else I can do to them to speed it up?
Thanks for your help so far. -
I wouldn’t make the images smaller than that.
Re-reading what I wrote, I don’t think I was clear enough. :)
I think the majority of the difference is total load time of your free site here vs your current self-hosted site are the ads we run on free sites here. With a paid plan, any paid plan, those will be removed.
