Webside address

I’ve just set up a site using the WordPress free option, but I’ve somehow created a URL that I didn’t want; namely thewordmakersbible.wordpress.com rather than canIhaveaword.wordpress.com. Is there any easy and free way I can change this, or now I have it do I have to stick to the URL?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @nsfwordsmith,

Yes you can do that, you can refer this support article about Change a Site Address

Hope this will help, thank you.

Hi, and thanks very much for your time in answering this, In the meantime, I’d decided to open a new site with the required name, then copied and pasted my site across to this before deleting the old one.

I do still have a small problem, though. The login URL for the site is the same as I have for another WordPress site, which means that I have to keep on switching site when I log in. It also means that I seem to be unable to add a Facebook link to my word-game site, since whenever I try this it comes up with the option of linking my main site to Facebook instead, and I don’t seem to be able to find a way round this. Is there a simple way of changing my log-in address so that the word-game site opens and stands on it’s own?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks again

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

The login URL for the site is the same as I have for another WordPress site, which means that I have to keep on switching site when I log in.

That’s correct — one WordPress.com account can own multiple sites. It’s possible to choose which one is loaded by default after logging in, from Account Settings > Primary Site.

Is there a simple way of changing my log-in address so that the word-game site opens and stands on it’s own?

If you prefer to manage both sites completely separately, one of them can be transferred to a different WordPress.com account:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

This process means you will have two accounts with one site listed in each.

It also means that I seem to be unable to add a Facebook link to my word-game site

Are you trying to connect a different Facebook page to canihaveaword.home.blog and nickproofpositive.wordpress.com? That should be possible providing you switch to the correct site before going to My Sites > Sharing:

  • Hi Nick –

I’m happy to help you get things sorted. There’s no problem, at all, with having multiple sites on the same WordPress.com account. In fact, it makes it easier to keep track of things.

Just adjust which site you have listed as the primary here:
    https://wordpress.com/me/account

Then the desired site will be up by default when you sign in to your account and you shouldn’t need to switch any more.

For the Facebook issue, are you connecting a Facebook page or a personal profile? Through Publicize? https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#using-publicize

    Write back with more questions.
