I’m really confused. I own my domain, bought through names.co.uk and also have email with them. I am looking to build a website with WordPress but I was advised to use either Blue host or Hostgator for hosting, I’d rather keep it all together but i really don’t want to mess it up. Do you provide email as well? Also, most people include the first year in transfer price, do you do that in here?
Thanks

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out, and I’m happy to help clear up any confusion that may be occurring.
I am looking to build a website with WordPress but I was advised to use either Blue host or Hostgator for hosting
There are two types of WordPress. The first is WordPress.com, which is a managed hosting solution that provides an optimised version of WordPress, daily backups, a 24/7 support service, a SSL certification and a whole range of other features.
The second is self-hosted WordPress, whereby the free open source version of the software is obtained from WordPress.org, and installed on a server. Bluehost and Hostgator, deal in self-hosted WordPress. More of the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I own my domain, bought through names.co.uk and also have email with them.
It’s possible to keep both the domain, and the email hosting with names.co.uk, and connect the domain via custom DNS settings, which is free to do with a paid plan at WordPress.com.
This is how you would connect a domain: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
In order to keep the email functioning, you would need to also add the custom DNS settings that are required to run the email hosting here at WordPress.com, and we can of course help with this implementation. This is how custom DNS settings can be applied: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/ generally speaking.
Do you provide email as well?
We do yes, more on the professional email we can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/adding-professional-email-to-your-site/ You wouldn’t need the email hosting previously purchased.
Also, most people include the first year in transfer price, do you do that in here?
As part of the transfer process, your domain will be renewed for an additional year. More on this can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
I’d rather keep it all together but i really don’t want to mess it up.
This is possible, but are you able to tell me when the domain was purchased? The reason being is that, depending on the date, the domain could be in an ICANN imposed 60 day transfer lock.
If it’s beyond that, it’s possible to transfer the domain as per these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/ and the email hosting and plan can be purchased here at WordPress.com.
I know that’s a lot of information to take in, but I hope it’s useful and clarifies your current set up.
It sounds like you could be getting started? What are you building exactly? I’d love to provide more information to help get you set up.
Looking forward to hearing more.
