My domain expired and is now presumably owned by someone else claiming to be a neurology site for some reason
My original domain looks like how it was last year even though I backed it up before expiry, nothing should have changed since they were just simple pages with simple content, nothing that needed a plan
So why did it change and can I change it back??

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear about the situation with your domain. When a domain expires, it doesn’t immediately become available for anyone to register again. Instead, there’s a grace period during which the original owner can renew it, often at a standard renewal rate. If it’s not renewed during this grace period, it then enters an auction phase.

Domain auctions are a common practice for domains that are seen as valuable or have potential interest to multiple parties. During an auction, different buyers bid on the domain, and the highest bidder gets the rights to register it. This process is why you’ve noticed your domain now hosts content unrelated to your original site. You can learn more about domain expiration and auction processes here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/#expiry-auction

Since the domain is now owned by someone else, registering a similar domain name might be a good alternative. Based on what you’ve shared, domains like psychderm.direct or psych-derm-direct.com are available and could serve as a suitable replacement for your website. Plus, if you upgrade to one of our annual plans, you can register your new domain for free.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
