Website

Hi.
We tried diligently to build a website. It said, for now, we could skip choosing the theme. However, it became a blog, and will not seem to allow to convert to website, we originally clicked, to build. A website is all we want, not a blog. We have spent a lot of time in this, and have tried many things. We are based in the USA. Even to find the contact page, was not easy.
Sincerely, PeteThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

Even to find the contact page, was not easy.
Ar the bottom of your Admin pages http://payoffcommunityservice.wordpress.com//wp-admin/ you will find the “support” link to documentation. That smae lin is a the bottof everyforum page too.
On the top right hand corner of your Admin pages there is a Help link.
There is no phone support. For all the support options when you have technical support issues see https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/
Those who have a paid upgrade use the “Contact Support” form, http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ where they will receive a choice of having staff answer your question publicly or privately.
The best contact form to use now is:
http://wordpress.com/help/contact
Live chat will be available there if we have Happiness Engineers available to chat.re: direct email support
Also note, that you can email Staff at:
support@wordpress.com
or
help@wordpress.com -

(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.You cod be posting to the wrong support forum.

I am planning to purchase a premium WordPress based theme from http://www.templatemonster.com and customize it a little bit to fully match my envision of what it should look like. I’m not really good at technical stuff and have practically no knowledge of coding, CSS, PHP, etc. I have used few free wordpress themes though I’ve not made any customization on those. With my lack of in-depth understanding how theme development actually works, should I consider buying a theme and hiring a developer to customize it, or finding a professional web designer to create my website from scratch?

This is the wordpress.COM support forum. You are confusing wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting. There is no FTP access https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/ and you cannot upload any custom themes or third party themes, or create your own theme here at wordpress.COM, or use stylesheets from another theme. There is no wordpress.COm upgrade that changes that. You can do those only on wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting.
The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
Read: http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Be sure to read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
This guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/For a wordpress.ORG software install on paid hosting if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

@timethief who writes the themes for WordPress.com? It says there are about 380 themes – are they set on that number?

Hi @payoffcommunityservice, have you tried using these steps?
https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/Those steps help you configure the site as a static page rather than a blog.
You might also consider using a more static-page-friendly theme, like Edin. In fact we have a video on setting up Edin here:
https://yoursiteon.wordpress.com/ -
@drawyourpets, we aren’t set at that number. We make many of the themes listed there, and we also offer several premium themes from other providers. Those themes have to be compatible with our servers, though.
Which theme did you have in mind?

https://payoffcommunityservice.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.
Will you please answer the drawyourpets question at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/website-192?replies=9#post-2611285?

No problem, I’d actually typed up my reply to the other user already, but figured I’d address the first user first with a link to that video tutorial, since that can sometimes help. Even if they removed this site, they might try again someday, or someone else may run into this thread. :)
After I did that, I just pasted the response I’d already made, so you probably responded before you saw that.
