How can I use WordPress.com for testing my blog?
-
I have installed the WordPress website software on my computer but I don’t know how to set up a new website that will eventually replace my current website. I want to set up a test sites so I can get it approved and we can work out any broken links or weird issues. We use Filezilla to upload our site to our host server and I don’t want the test site to be live while we are building it.

If you’re using WordPress.com to host your test site, you can set your blog to private — that way your site will only be accessible to you and anyone you add to your users list.
You can do this from Settings > Privacy in your dashboard. This guide should come in handy: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Once you’re satisfied with your blog, you can migrate the content to your WordPress.org installation by following this guide:

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
