  is there a way to try your site out before transferring away from our current registrar? I’d like to see how to update your site first… and how it works…

  Hi there,

  You can create a new WordPress.com site without transferring your domain, yes.

  All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).

  So you can experiment and build your site at that free address, import your content to the free site, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.

  To get started, go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/. On the domains step, select the free address that’s suggested, and on the plans step select the free plan.
