Website admin & access
-
Hi, this site was set up for our Scout Group in the UK by Stuart Raynor who was one of the leaders and a web developer by trade. Stuart unfortunately died recently and the site is out of date and requires either updating or even decommissioning. Stuart was the only person who was an admin for the site so we need to know how we can get access to the website so we can arrange to deal with it. Please advise.
Thanks,
Alan Bower (Scout Leader – 1st Woodhall Scouts)

Hi, thanks your reply.
He died suddenly and we have been trying to work out how to get access to the site without him.
Our website was:
http://1stwoodhall.ukscouts.org.ukWhen I hit ‘Inspect’ there is a number of references to ‘wordpress’ hence me trying here…
Thank you.

Unfortunately, that site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere, so we cannot directly assist with this.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
And, they have some options that might help at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.

Thanks for your help – it was a decent starting point – I’ll try the org site.
Thanks for pointing me in their direction.
